Can Dogs Eat Salt? 🧂 The Answer Might Surprise You
Salt might be on your dinner, but should it be in your dog’s bowl?
We all drop food sometimes — chips, crackers, a fry or two. And while a little lick of salt might not seem dangerous, too much salt can actually be toxic to dogs.
Here’s what every pet owner should know:
🐶 A small amount is usually harmless. But regular salty snacks can lead to dehydration, vomiting, or even sodium ion poisoning.
🧠 Symptoms of salt poisoning include confusion, seizures, excessive thirst, and tremors.
💧 Always keep fresh water available — dogs are more sensitive to sodium than we are.
What to do if your dog eats something salty:
Monitor for symptoms
Offer fresh water immediately
If they show any signs of illness — talk to a vet ASAP
